Mission Statement of the Canvass Program
Issue Work
Educate the public and our membership about social and economic issues. Provide a constant grassroots presence in districts throughout the state. Counter the ad campaigns and lobbying efforts of powerful special interest groups on vital issues.
Fundraising
Provide a consistent source of funding for the organization. Washington CAN! receives approximately 85% of our operating budget from canvass generated revenues. We have built our membership base over the years through the work of our door-to-door and telephone canvass programs.
Leglislative and Electoral Work
Work at the grassroots level to mobilize the public and our members on state and national legislation. Letter writing and phone call campaigns help us to gain accountability from elected officials; to encourage them to introduce, cosponsor, and vote in favor of pro-consumer legislation while opposing anti-consumer legislation. To further a progressive issue agenda, we educate our members about the voting records of candidates for local, state, and federal office.
Staff Development
We do extensive training and development work with our staff. To build an effective organization and successful progressive movement we need talented, skilled staff and leadership to build our canvass program and meet our objectives as stated above. There are numerous opportunities for advancement, travel, and growth.
