We’re still here! Stand with us!

Last night, Washington CAN and allies in the community stood our ground and refused to leave the Capitol until the legislators made a choice: us or the corporations.

Hundreds of us demonstrated in and outside the Capitol Building and crashed the Ways and Means Committee hearing on the budget. Tee-shirts spelling out “Cut Tax Loopholes” and “Nowhere left to go” appeared in the Senate gallery.

The House’s budget calls for deeper cuts to health care, education, services for seniors, and other core services. Not a single cut or reduction in tax breaks for special interests and corporations was included. For too long, lawmakers have used the excuse of Tim Eyman’s 2/3 majority vote to justify devastating cuts. The bottom line is a vote is a choice, and lawmakers have to choose.

Stand with us by calling your lawmakers 800-562-6000 demanding that they close tax loopholes and report back how it went.

Thank you to everyone who sent us messages and snacks while we protest the cuts. For more updates, follow us on twitter for faster updates @washingtoncan #wearewashington

Sí Se Puede Water!

Special thanks to Buffalo Mazzetti for donating cases of Sí Se Puede water to Washington CAN!

Buffalo isn't just doing business in the community, he's also putting out the tools for folks to take action by making his bottled water a creative message to lawmakers. On each bottle of water, there are instructions to put a letter to your legislators inside about immigrant rights and how to mail the bottle to their office!

For more information about Buffalo's "message in a bottle" and also if you're interested in carrying Sí Se Puede water at your business or buying a case, check out his store website:

Thanks again, Buffalo!
