Under pressure from immigration justice advocates, organized with help from Washington CAN!, Auburn City Council passed a resolution making the city a Sanctuary City.
The resolution doesn't go as far as we will demand the city council go. We want an ordinance that guarantees our police don't cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers so we know immigrants, regardless of documentation status, can live without fear in their own communities. But, it was a step toward the right direction.
Our members shared their stories at the meeting when the vote was held in May and demanded better from our leaders.
