Rent Stabilization

Grassroots lobbying uplifts marginalized voices, advocating for policies that address the housing crisis and ensure fair, affordable homes for all.

In Washington State, rising rents, displacement, and homelessness have left too many families without stable housing. Washington Community Action Network fights for housing justice by uplifting the voices of those most impacted, ensuring that lawmakers hear directly from communities demanding affordable, equitable housing solutions.

Rent Stabilization

Rent stabilization is a critical step toward addressing the housing crisis and ensuring stability for families and individuals across Washington communities. When rents rise unpredictably or excessively, it creates housing insecurity, displacing families, deepening poverty, and exacerbating inequities in our communities. That’s why we’re fighting for a bill that sets clear limits on rent increases, improves tenant protections, and promotes fair rental practices. By capping rent increases, requiring notice for increases of 3% or more, and prohibiting excessive move-in fees, this legislation provides renters with the predictability they need to plan for their futures and stay in their homes. For our members, this bill represents more than just relief from skyrocketing rents—it’s about preserving dignity, stability, and community in a time of economic uncertainty. Rent stabilization benefits everyone by reducing displacement, improving community cohesion, and making housing more accessible for all Washingtonians. Together, we can advocate for policies that prioritize people over profit and create a fairer, more sustainable housing system.
